Regional Cum Facilitation Centre, Northern Region II, Ministry Of AYUSH GOI, NMPB, SKUAST Kashmir Conducts Workshop On Ayurveda Day At GDC Sidhra

Eco Club ‘SRISHTI’ of GDC Sidhra organised an awareness workshop in collaboration with National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH., SKUAST Kashmir on the topic "Ayurveda for one health, Ayurveda for everyone on everyday”.
Prof. Sheikh Bilal Ahmed, Regional Director of Regional cum Facilitation centre, NMPB, Ministry of AYUSH, SKUAST Kashmir and Sh. O. P Sharma Vidyarthi, retd I. F. S, former Principal Chief Conservator Forests, JK Forest Department were the resource persons for the programme. Program began with welcome address by Dr. Anshu Gupta followed by presentation of bouquets to the chief guests by the worthy Principal of the College.
Prof.Sheikh Bilal gave a detailed presentation on the topic “Medicinal Plants: For food and Nutritional Security”. He spoke at length about the importance of the indigenous medicinal plants and also about their nutritional content. After that, Sh. O. P Sharma spoke in detail on the topic “Medicinal Plants of Jammu and Kashmir”. He elaborated the local names and medicinal uses of the plants. He stressed upon the importance of preserving traditional knowledge for promoting well being of not only humans but also the environment. He also stressed upon the importance of Ayurveda and the need to spread awareness about it as lack of awareness amongst youth today is the major challenge faced. Lectures were followed by pledge taking ceremony in which students took oath to preserve the environment and adopt environment friendly habits.
The event was organised by Eco Club ‘SRISHTI’ of the college in collaboration with NSS unit of the college under the guidance of Principal of the College, Dr. B. B Anand. The event was successful with the active efforts and co-ordination of Dr. Anshu Gupta, Convenor Eco-club, Prof. Deepa Kak, Dr. Anu Sharma, Dr. Mehmood Ahmed and Dr. Mussarat Chowdhary. Principal of the College while speaking on the event appreciated the resource persons and also shared his views on the topic with students. Program ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr. Anshu Gupta. 60 students participated in the program and refreshment was also distributed among the students.
