ECO-Club Srishti of GDC Sidhra commemorates World Water Day-2024 in collaboration
with Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) Jammu Chapter
ECO-Club Srishti of Government Degree College Sidhra in collaboration with Indian Science
Congress Association (ISCA) Jammu organised an awareness program on 22 nd March 2024, to
commemorate World Water Day 2024. The theme of this year’s Water Day is “Water for
Peace”.The aim behind organizing this awareness program was to underline the significance
of fresh water in our lives. This day not just celebrates water but also raises awareness
about many facts related to water. The chief Guest of the event was Prof. Kuldeep Krishan
Sharma, Vice Chancellor Himalayan University, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh and Dr. Ranvijay
Singh, Dean Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu.
The program began with welcome address by Dr. Anshu Gupta, convener of ECO club of the
college. Principal of the college, Dr. G. S Rakwal formally welcomed the guests of the event
and briefed the gathering about the importance of this day and the global crisis stressing
upon judicious use of water resources which is very important for sustainable development
in order to save the resources for future generations.
Prof. Kuldeep Krishan Sharma in his insightful talk enlightened the students with his valuable
thoughts. He told the students about Indian Knowledge System and importance of water
mentioned as one of the three Gems in the Vedic literature. He made the students aware of
how natural water bodies have dried up, ground water has declined and surface water has
been polluted and how human actions have impacted the valuable resource. He motivated
the students for imbibing small things in their daily routine that can lead to conserving the
valuable resource that is water and we can avoid conflicts that may happen if this resource
is not managed properly. He discussed how water is a key towards prosperity and peace,
and also highlighted the link between sustainable water management and global peace and
well-being.
After this the gathering was addressed by Dr. Ranvijay Singh who stressed upon the role of
young generation in conservation of water. He told the students how small and collective
efforts can lead to big differences. He also stressed upon the role of students spreading
awareness amongst the common people on this issue.
Dr. Anshu Gupta also emphasised that when we cooperate on Water, we create a positive
ripple effect that fosters harmony, generating prosperity and building resilience to shared
challenges.
The proceedings of the event were carried by Dr. Anshu Gupta. The program ended with
formal vote of thanks by Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Assistant Professor of Sociology. The
program was organised, under the able guidance of Principal, Dr. G. S Rakwal, by Dr. Anshu
Gupta, Convener ECO-Club and Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences with active
support and cooperation of members of ECO-Club, Prof. Deepa Kak, Assistant professor in
Education, Dr. Anu Sharma, Assistant Prof. of Botany.
