GDC Sidhra in collaboration with St. Dominic’s College, East Khasi hills Sillong under “Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat” organized an online guest lecture by Andrew J.May, Prof. in Australian historical and Philosophical Studies, University of Melbourne, Australia. Prof. Andrew focused on various aspects such as Factual Knowledge, Culture, Ethics, Aesthetics, History, Colonial Mindset and colonial history, and language also. He focused on factual knowledge as a mean of understanding a subject and solving a problem. He said that the colonial mindset is deeply embedded and persists today. He highlighted colonial mentality as the internalized attitude of ethnic or cultural inferiority felt by people as a result of colonization. He laid an emphasis on Aesthetics as the theory of beauty, or more broadly as that together with the philosophy of art. He focused on ethics as representation of the moral code that guides a person’s choices and behaviors throughout their life. He emphasized language as an art of talent. According to him learning languages needs a specific talent. He also focused on the importance of cultural heritage. The event was successfully conducted under the able guidance of worthy Principal of the college, Dr. B.B. Anand. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Punam Rani with the active support of NSS P.O. Mehmood Ahmed.
