Awareness Lecture on “Child Rights” organized by GDC Sidhra

As continuation of Constitution Day celebrations, Department of English, GDC Sidhra organised an awareness program on “Child Rights” under the aegis of IQAC.Children and young people have the same general human rights as adults and also specific rights that recognize their special needs. Children are neither the property of their parents nor are they helpless objects of charity. They are human beings and are the subject of their own rights. While delivering her lecture, Dr Rudrika Khajuria, HOD English, elucidated on how multiple articles in the constitution have been enshrined to envisage a secure future for the youth, free from any deprivation and bias. In India, Child Rights and Juvenile Justice system has laws such as Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, etc. Many adoption focused rights and laws under the aegis of Anti-Human Trafficking Unit established under Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and Central Adoption Resource Authority established under Juvenile Justice Act to control and protect and child rights, were also discussed during the lecture. The aim of the lecture was to facilitate education and conversation on contemporary child rights issues among students and relevant stakeholders. The event was organised by Dr. Rudrika Khajuria, Dept.of English under the guidance of the Principal of the College, Dr. B. B. Anand.
