GDC SIDHRA ORGANIZED AWARENESS LECTURE ON LYMPHATIC FILARIASIS Lymphatic filariasis (LF) known as elephantiasis is a target disease for Government of India and is targeted for elimination by 2027.As a contributory step towards the successful implementation of the vital strategy ofMass Drug Administration (MDA), NSS unit of GDC Sidhra under the aegis of IQAC and Viksit Bharat@2047 organized an Awareness Lecture tosensitize the students regarding the genesis, causes and preventive measures of this disease. The resource persons for the lecture were Prof. Deepa Kak and Prof. Shonima Malhotra. The resource persons briefed the students that this is a serious debilitating disease transmitted through the bite of Culexmosquitos which breeds in dirty and polluted water.Infection is usually acquired in childhood causing damage to the lymphatic system and visible manifestations of the disease occur later in age which can lead to permanent disability. The students were further informed about the anti-filarial drugs for the prevention of the disease. The program was conducted under the able guidance of Dr.B.B. Anand, worthy Principal of the college. The program was successfully conducted with the active cooperation of Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, PO, NSS Unit GDC Sidhra.
