Awareness Lecture On " The Juvenile Justice (Care And Protection Of Children) Act"

As Continuation of Constitution Day Celebrations, English Department of the College under the aegis of IQAC, organized an awareness lecture on " The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act", an important legislation in India that deals with the legal framework for the care, protection, and rehabilitation of children in conflict with the law and children in need of care and protection. A lecture on the said topic was delivered by Dr Indu Koul. In her lecture, Dr Indu emphasized upon the definition of juvenile, how the act focuses on rehabilitation rather than punishment for juvenile offenders and the establishment of Juvenile Justice Boards and Child Welfare Committees. A child is brought up in the society and social contact around him is bound to affect his behavior, added Dr Indu, while stressing upon the need for all stakeholders, parents and society as a whole to be more vigilant to monitor feelings and behavior of the child. She ended her lecture by quoting the Chilean poet Gabriella Mistral, foregrounding the need for parents and society to shower nurturing care in order for children to grow and develop optimally;"We are guilty of many errors and many faults, but our worst crime is abandoning the children, neglecting the fountain of life. To him we cannot answer ‘Tomorrow,’ his name is today". The event was successfully organized by Dr Rudrika Khajuria and Dr Indu Koul of English Department under the able guidance of the worthy Principal of the college, Dr. B. B Anand.
