Celebration Of Accession Day 2024

In relation to the Celebration of Accession Day, GDC Sidhra has Organised a symposium
Competition among the students of various semester and they expressed their views on J&K
Accession with Indian Union via their presentation. The Programme was started by Dr. Meesha
Bhagat, Convener of Literary Committee where she briefed the students about the historical
background of Instrument of accession in relation to princely states including J&K. She
highlighted that the introduction of Instrument of accession was through ‘The Government of
India Act 1935’ and it was used in 1947 to allow each of the princely states within the British
Paramountcy to accede to one of the new nation i.e India or Pakistan established through the
Partition of India. The accession of these states to the union of India or Pakistan was allowed
through the Instrument of accession signed by their rulers on some conditions. The programmme
was further captured by the students who gave their presentation on the theme of Accession Day
of J&K and stated about the historical background, internal reasons and circumstances which led
J&k to accede to India. The students of various on-going semesters participated in the
Competition with full fervour and zeal and discussed the topic in depth. The competition was
judged by Dr. Harpreet Kour, Head of Department of Political Science and Dr. Anu Sharma,
Head of Department of Botany. Priya Kumari of B.A Vth Semester attained the first Position
whereas the second position was bagged by Manharan Singh of B.A Vth semester and third
position was Shared both by Asif Iqbal and Shahjahan Ahmed of B.A IIIrd semester. The
competition was conducted to make the students aware about the Accession Day which
celebrates on 26 October every year and from 2020 this date was declared as public holiday in
the UT of J&k..
The programme was organized by Literary Committee with Coordination and support of all
committee members in collaboration with Department of Political Science under the able
guidance of the Worthy Principal of the college, Dr.G.S Rakwal.
