Department of Lifelong Learning organised One day workshop on "Communication Skills" and "Self Employment" at GDC Sidhra Career Counselling Cell of GDC Sidhra in collaboration with Employment Information Cum Advisory Bureau (EIAB), Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL) University of Jammu under the aegis of IQAC today organised one day workshop on “Communication Skills and Self Employment” with the objective of providing valuable insights and practical training in effective communication as well as self employment generation. Program began with a welcome address by Dr. Anu Sharma, Convenor Career Counselling Cell followed by lamp lightening ceremony. The workshop was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Director Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu and Dr. G.S Rakwal, Principal of the college. Chief guest of the program and all the dignitaries were presented mementos by the worthy Principal of the college. In her inaugural speech, Dr. Priyanka spoke at length about the importance of communication skills in our personal and professional lives. Further, she talked about the importance of self employment in the current situation in which job markets are shrinking. She also threw some light on the activities and workshops being conducted by Department of Lifelong Learning at various institutions. The Resource person for the event was Dr. Zahid Ali, Incharge Centre for Incubation, Innovation and Business Modelling, JKEDI, Jammu. He explained in detail about Self employment opportunities, start up policy and Govt. Schemes and loans. He also apprised the students about the various skills and schemes that can benefit the students to get self employment. He encouraged the students to change their mindset and take opportunity to create employment for themselves. The second resource person of the workshop was Ms. Neetu Dhar, Chief Coordinator and Master Trainer JKDCUL [Jammu Kashmir Dairy Producers Processors and Marketing Cooperative Ltd.], Jammu. She detailed the students about components of formal and informal communication skills. She also spoke at length about how gestures play vital role in communication by enhancing understandin and conveying emotions. Further she involved the students in various activities for enhancing their communication skills.  Dr. G.S Rakwal, Principal of the College appreciated the organizers of the programme and expressed the dire need for career counselling programmes for the students as it helps them in Self discovery, informed decision making, skill development, goal setting and plan their career accordingly. He further added that career counseling sessions help students to plan their careers according to job markets. He asked the students to acquire the skills that make them fit for employment. He also appreciated the efforts of Department of Lifelong Learning to organise such useful workshop for their students. The workshop was co-ordinated by Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, Department of Lifelong Learning and it was organized by Dr. Anu Sharma Convenor Career Counselling and Placement Cell of the college with active support and coordination of the members of the cell. The proceedings of the program were carried out by Dr. Anu Sharma. Among others present were Dr. Harpreet Kour, Dr. Purvaiya Hans, Dr. Mehmood Ahmed alongwith other faculty members of the college. At last, Dr. Rewa Khajuria informed the students about various activities being done by Dept. of Lifelong learning. She aksed the students to take benefit of various schemes and programmes being run by the department. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Meesha Bhagat. About 70 students of the college participated in the workshop enthusiastically.
