Essay Writing Competition Focused On The Crucial Topic Of Women's Rights

In the wake of India's visionary goal to evolve into a developed nation by 2047, Department of Sociology, GDC
Sidhra, organized an Essay Writing Competition focused on the crucial topic of ‘Women's Rights’. The competition
was organized under the aegis of IQAC in connection with the series of activities being conducted under Viksit
Bharat @ 2047.
Empowering women is not just a goal; it is a catalyst for societal progress. This competition organized in support of
advancing women's rights and empowerment, aimed to encourage thoughtful discourse and critical thinking on
the subject of women's rights, envisioning a progressive future by the year 2047 where gender equality is not just
an ideal but a reality. Students from different semesters of the college participated in this competition. Through
their essays the participants reflected on, analyzed, and proposed concrete steps towards empowering women
across all sectors addressing the multifaceted dimensions of development of women in our society - be it
education, workforce, governance, or societal norms. By encouraging discussions and insights through this essay
competition, the college aimed to inspire a collective drive towards creating a more inclusive, equitable and just
world for all. Every essay submitted to this competition represents a voice advocating for change.
All the participants put in their best and expressed their views in the best possible manner. The participants were
adjudged by Dr. Rudrika Khajuria, Head, Department of English and Dr. Indu Koul, Lecturer, Department of English.
It was a neck to neck competition. The first position was bagged by Ritika Sharma of Semester V, second position
was shared by Stanzin Thupstan of Semester V and Ambika Sharma of Semester III and the third position went to
Sabrina Rafiq of Semester I. The programme was organized by Prof. Shonima Malhotra, HOD Sociology under the
able guidance of worthy Principal of the college, Dr. B.B. Anand. The Principal of the college congratulated the
winners and applauded all the participants for contributing towards the success of the programme. Dr. Anshu
Gupta, HOD Environmental Science and Dr. Anu Sharma, HOD Botany also contributed towards the programme.
