GDC Sidhra Commemorates International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2023 The “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” is celebrated annually on 26th June to raise awareness regarding the major problem that illicit drugs create in the society and to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. This day is used as a day to stimulate a sense of responsibility among people around the world, especially youngsters and teenagers towards creating a safe, healthy and happy society. The theme of the current year’s “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” is “People First: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention.” As a contributing step to increase public awareness of drug usage, its effects on people and communities and the importance of effective prevention and treatment Anti Drugs and Rehabilitation Cell of Government Degree College Sidhra, Jammu under the aegis of IQAC, banner of AKAM and Mission LiFE organised different activities to commemorate International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2023. First activity organised was an Awareness lecture on the theme “Karo Yog, Raho Nirog” delivered by worthy principal of the college in which he emphasised how by practicing yoga one can live a stress free and healthy life. Yoga for the body and meditation for the mind can help one to get rid of any addiction. Further he also deliberated on how Yoga is increasingly being used in substance abuse treatment and provides a healthy outlet to cope with potential triggers and daily life stressors. Second activity was Poster Making Slogan Writing on the theme “Stop Drug Abuse” in which students from different semesters participated and made beautiful posters conveying the message against Substance Abuse. Third activity was “Awareness Campaign on the theme # “Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs” in which students from different semesters of the college participated and generated awareness on the said theme. The students clicked their pictures with different thematic captions related to the solution of the problem. As a step further, the students also kept the pictures as their social media (Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) profile pictures and status with an intention of reaching out and conveying the same to maximum people possible. The activities were organised by Prof. Deepa Kak, Convener, Anti Drugs and Rehabilitation Cell GDC Sidhra under the able guidance of worthy principal of the college Dr. B.B Anand.
