Lecture on Voting Awareness and Rights organized at GDC Sidhra
DATED: 22-02-2024
Voting is the cornerstone of a democratic society, ensuring citizens have a voice in governance. It
empowers individuals to influence policies, elect representatives, and shape the future of their
community and nation. Through active participation, citizens contribute to a functioning
democracy, fostering accountability and representation. In an attempt to make voters empowered,
vigilant and informed, the Electoral Literacy Club of GDC Sidhra in collaboration with NSS
Unit, organized a lecture in relation to Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation
(SVEEP). The resource person for the event was Dr. B. B Anand, Principal of the college. Dr B.
B. Anand delivered an informative & impressive lecture on the basic knowledge of electoral
process and elaborated on the intricacies involved in it, so that students could understand and
learn the procedure involved in casting vote. Students were further apprised about the
significance of exercising ‘Right to vote’. Dr B. B. Anand foregrounded how right to vote is an
infallible weapon of democracy. He emphasized that there are many who think that their vote
doesn't matter and therefore do not even register themselves to vote. However, we often forget
that the difference of even one vote can be the difference between a good government and a bad
one, between a capable and strong head of the state and a weak and indecisive one. Hence, it is
vital for each and every individual to vote. Unless one chooses the right representative through
right to vote, one cannot build the true structure of democracy.
The event was successfully organized by members of Electoral Literacy Club - Dr. Harpreet
Kour & Dr. Rudrika Khajuria and NSS Unit members – Dr. Mehmood Ahmed & Prof. Deepa
Kak. Prof. Gurjeet Singh, Department of Punjabi, also contributed towards the event. The event
was organized under the guidance of the Principal of the College, Dr. B. B. Anand.
