Government Degree College Sidhra’s Literary Club in collaboration with NSS under the patronage of worthy Principal, Dr. B.B Anand celebrated “National Youth Day-the birth anniversary of SWAMI VIVEKANANDA ” by organizing an Intra-college Declamation Competition on the theme “Different facets of Swami Vivekananda’ life Journey” under the banner of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’. The programme started with the welcome address by Prof. Meesha Bhagat (Convener of Literary club) who, presented a detailed description of the purposeful facts about Swami Vivekananda life and briefly introduced the topic of the Declamation to the students. The Judges for this competition were Dr. Harpreet Kour (HOD, Political Science) and Prof. Punam Rani (HOD, History) and Dr. Satvir Kour(HOD, Punjabi). The speakers while speaking on the topic highlighted multitude of facets of the life of Swami Vivekananda. His Contribution as a Spiritual leader and as a practical patriotic cannot be evaded. His role was served as the most inspiring fervor behind the Indian freedom struggle. Moreover, he was looked up to as a source of motivation and inspiration by many great Indians like Netaji Subash Chander Bose and Aurbindo Ghose. The speakers spoke with fervor on his Life Joruney, teaching and philosophy as his philosophy mostly stressed on different aspects of religion, Youth, education, faith, character –building as well as social issues pertaining to India. The speakers were judged on various parameters like relevance to topic, their expression, confidence etc. Jattin Parihar of Vth semester was adjudged first whereas second and third position were bagged by Sabrina Naaz of Ist semester and Irshad Akhter of III semester respectivey. The emphasis of the event was to make the students aware about the genesis of ‘National Youth Day’ Participants were encouraged to take an inspiration and lesson from his life journey.The event ended with the concluding note of Prof. Meesha Bhagat, Department of political Science who enlightened students about the relevance of this day and the tribute which world pays to him while thanking him for igniting the spiritual quest.
