We all are aware of the recycling process but rarely do we make efforts that the trash and waste materials can be put to better use too. The process saves a lot of energy and reduces the burden on the environment. Keeping this in mind, GDC Sidhra under the aegis of G20, IQAC and the banner of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav organized One Day Workshop on “Waste to Wonders” on 12 th of May 2023. The main objective behind the workshop was to spread awareness and mobilization through skills on the issue of plastic waste and it's recycling.Such activity help students regarding solid waste management and recycling in the future as it will enhance their creativity to create something new with the waste and reduce trash. students were guided how used plastic bottles can be recycled into beautiful planters and they can plant various saplings in them that can be sustainable too besides supporting recycling and upcycling. The workshop was conducted byDr. Anshu Gupta, Convenor of SRISHTI: The ECO-Club of the college; Prof. Deepa Kak, Co-convenor of ECO-Club; Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, NSS PO; Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Convenor G20 committee and Dr. Satbir Kaur, member NSS Unit of the college.Dr. Anshu Gupta had an elucidative interactive session with students regarding this workshop and its significance. She told the studentsthat 'Combining knowledge with skills equips students to approach environmental issues with rectitude and pursue sustainable lifestyle.The main program involved making of an innovative garden using old plastic bottles. Dr. Mehmood Ahmed interacted with the students and told them that the waste is wealth in today’s world, the students need to be aware of various products that are being created out of the trash. Prof. Shonima Malhotra screened a documentary emphasizing the importance of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Prof. Deepak motivated the students to take part in such activities in future also. The workshop was organized under the able guidance of worthy Principal of the college Dr. B B Anand. The activity was a part of series of activities organized to celebrate India’s presidency of G20.
