Considering the manifold benefits of planting trees, including that they release oxygen into the air, absorb harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide from the air and purify it, protect us from dangerous ultra-violet rays, provide us with food and the pivotal role played by trees in preventing soil erosion, maintaining ecological balance and most especially in lessening the effects of global warming, G20 Committee, College Development Committee and NSS Unit of Government Degree College Sidhra under the aegis of IQAC and G20 and the banner of AZADI KA AMRUT MAHOTSAV organized a Plantation and Reducing Carbon Footprint Drive around railway crossing Bain Bajalta. The aim of the activity was to promote the values of cleanliness, discipline and respect for environment amongst the students.While speaking on the occasion, Principal of the College, Dr. B. B. Anand raised awareness among the students about afforestation and motivated them to plant more and more trees to conserve nature. He also emphasized on the need of involvement of young generation in the preservation of Environment and Ecosystem. Students and faculty members of the college planted saplings of various plants and carried out a rally aimed at spreading awareness among the common masses regarding the importance oftree plantation and environment conservation. The Tree Plantation drive was aimed at combating environmental issues like deforestation, erosion of soil, global warming and hence enhancing the beauty and balance of the environment.Principal of the college, Dr. B. B. Anand, congratulated all for the success of the drive and appreciated the volunteers for their diligent efforts. The programme was the joint effort of G20 Committee, College Development Committee and NSS Unit of the College.
