Role Of Police And Society In Eradication Of Drugs

In today’s time where the members of the society are falling in the clutches of drugs at an alarming rate there is a stringent need to generate awareness among the general public about the menace of drugs and its severe harmful consequences. So, in consonance with the well known phrase ‘Actions speak louder than Words’, Anti Drugs and Rehabilitation Cell, NSS Unit and Psychological Counselling Cell under the aegis of IQAC and G20 and banner of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav organized an Extension Lecture on the theme ‘Role of Police and Society in Eradication of Drugs’. The resource person for the programme was Sh. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Dy. Director SKPA, Udhampur. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Rudrika Khajuria. Principal of the college. Dr. B. B. Anand apprised the students about the growing threat of drug addiction and the need to act cautiously. At the outset, Sh. Pawan Kumar Sharma thanked worthy Director Sh. Garib Das, IPS, Additional Director General of Police for allowing him to deliver a lecture on such a vital topic which is directly linked with the survival and career of the youth of the country. In his lecture, he deliberated upon the topic at length. His lecture included in depth knowledge about the causes, signs, symptoms and preventive measures of drug addiction. He further shared few case studies based on his vast experience in the Police Department highlighting how the department is performing a responsible role in coping with the enhancing problem of drug addiction. His lecture was followed by a vibrant interactive and question answer session wherein the student with the best answer, Saprina Naz of B.A. Semester I was awarded with a prize. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Deepa Kak. The programme was organized under the patronship of worthy Principal of the college Dr. B. B. Anand. The programme was conducted successfully with the joint efforts of Prof. Deepa Kak, Convenor Anti Drugs and Rehabilitation Cell and Psychological Cell and Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, PO NSS Unit of the college with the active support and coordination of other members of the Committees.
