As part of India’s G20 presidency, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched a campaign titled ‘Stay Safe Online’. In consonance with this applaudable initiative taken by MeitY, GDC Sidhra under the aegis of IQAC and G20 and the banner of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav organized a programme comprising of a series of activities. At the onset, Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Nodal Officer for G-20 Digital Innovation for ‘Stay Safe Online Campaign’ apprised the students about this campaign. To add to their knowledge, a ‘Documentary’ was showcased to the students highlighting the mandate, need and significance of this campaign. Through this documentary not only were the students acquainted with the initiation of this campaign in an era of exponential increase in the number of internet users in India and the rapidly evolving technology landscape, they were also made familiar with the objective of this campaign i.e. sensitizing users of all ages about online risk & safety measures and promoting cyber hygiene thereby reinforcing the cyber safety of citizens. Prof. Shonima further stressed on the fact that in the current scenario where the world is going digital, we as digital citizens of the cyber world need to shoulder the responsibility along with the government and be committed towards building safe online environment. Keeping this into consideration, the faculty and students of the college, as the citizens of digital India and users of the global cyber space, took a ‘Cyber Security Pledge’ to be cyber aware and alert in safeguarding themselves, their families and friends; to enable a safe cyber society that can capably fight back online dangers and do not tolerate any cybercrimes or frauds and to follow ethical, hygienic and secure digital practices at all times.
