Thought Provoking And Illuminating Deliberations On The Theme 'Truth And Non -Violence Held At GDC Sidhra
2023-09-18
In a world where discord and division often dominate headlines, it is imperative that we take a moment to reflect on the principles of truth and non-violence that have long been championed by visionaries such as Mahatma Gandhi. In a programme organized by GDC Sidhra under the aegis of IQAC, a diverse group of students from different semesters of the college had a thought-provoking deliberation on the timeless values of truth and non-violence. This event, organized by the college aimed to facilitate a constructive dialogue on how these principles can guide us in our personal lives, our communities, and our global society. The deliberation featured insightful discussions and perspectives from the speakers. At the outset, Shonima Malhotra, HOD Sociology, addressed the various aspects of truth and non-violence, including their historical significance, practical applications and relevance. To proceed further, she stressed that these principles, which have shaped the course of history, continue to be a beacon of hope and a roadmap towards a more just, compassionate, harmonious and peaceful world. As we navigate through a complex and interconnected world, the principles of truth and non-violence remain indispensable tools for resolving conflicts, promoting justice, and building bridges between diverse communities. In continuation of this deliberation, the students expressed their views on these principles. They posited that truth is not merely the absence of falsehood but also an active commitment to transparency, honesty, and accountability in all aspects of life. They emphasized the importance of truth as a fundamental building block of trust and understanding. The discussions also shed light on non-violence as a potent force for positive change. Participants stressed that non-violence is not passive, but a proactive stance that seeks to address conflicts through empathy, dialogue, and peaceful means. The speakers shared real-world examples of how these principles are being applied in contemporary contexts. To conclude, Prof. Shonima Malhotra, called for a renewed commitment to educate individuals, especially the youth, about the principles of truth and non-violence and recognize these as universal values that can unite people from all walks of life and backgrounds.
The programme was organized by Shonima Malhotra, HOD Sociology under the guidance of Dr. B.B. Anand, worthy Principal of the college.
