Department of Environmental Sciences GDC Sidhra in collaboration with Civil Defense organization Jammu organized One Day Workshop on First Aid and Handling Emergency situations
Understanding the need to include and train young people, especially the student community in Disaster Risk Reduction, “A one day workshop on First Aid and Handling Emergency situations” was organized by Department of Environmental Sciences and SRISHTI: THE ECO-CLUB of GDC Sidhra on 13th of April, 2023, under the aegis of IQAC and the banner of G20 & Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The workshop was organized for the purpose of training the students enrolled in the Skill Enhancement Course on Environmental Hazards and Management offered by the Department of Environmental Sciences of the college. The workshop was attended by students enrolled in the said course, ECO-CLUB and NSS volunteers, students and faculty members of the college. The main aim behind organizing this workshop is to build capacity of the community to handle any disasters effectively and to save the lives of maximum people at the time of disasters.
The workshop was conducted by Civil Defense Jammu. Deputy Controller Civil Defense, Anita Pawar was the Guest of Honor of the event accompanied by Chief Warden Civil Defense, Sh. Paramjit Kumar; trainers deputed by SDRF included Inspectors namely Mr. Parshotam Kumar, Rajinder Verma and Sub Inspector Mr. R. D Saini. Worthy Principal of the college, Dr. B B Anand welcomed Madam Anita Pawar and team by presenting token of appreciation. Madam Anita Pawar interacted with the students and motivated them to contribute for the betterment of the society, stay away from drugs, follow discipline, and take care of their own selves so that they can serve the nation. The trainers emphasized upon explaining various emergency situations and how to handle them. They imparted hands-on training to the students on basic Emergency Medical Service (EMS), First –Aid, handling wounds and bleeding, CPR, snake bite, choking, burn and fire. They also demonstrated Emergency Response and Relief methods.
Principal of the college Dr. B. B Anand said that it is a right step towards building individual social responsibility by equipping our students with these skills. Dr Anshu Gupta emphasized upon the importance of such workshops and also motivated the students to attend such workshops in future also. The workshop was organized by Dr. Anshu Gupta, HOD, Environmental Sciences and Convenor ECO-Club of the college. Dr. Anshu Gupta presented a formal vote of thanks. The workshop was successful with the active cooperation and support of Prof. Deepa Kak, member ECO-CLUB and Dr. Tania Baloria, faculty in the department of English of the college.
