NSS 7-DAYS WINTER CAMP REPORT (04.01.2025-14.01.2025)
NSS Unit Government Degree College Sidhra organized a week long NSS Winter Camp. The camp
commenced on 04/01/2025 and concluded on 14-01-2025. NSS Volunteers of the college participated in the
Winter Camp with great zeal and enthusiasm. In the week-long Camp, various activities were organized.
DAY-ONE
ON-DAY-ONE
The camp was inaugurated by the chief guest of the occasion, Dr G.S.Rakwal, worthy Principal of the
college with the lighting of the traditional lamp, followed by Saraswati Vandana performed by Ms
Kajal,NSS Volunteer. In his speech, the chief guest applauded the efforts of NSS PO, Dr.Purvaiya Hans and
her team. He motivated and congratulated the volunteers for their selfless service towards the society and in
his address he congratulated the NSS Unit of the college for their untiring efforts in organizing the camp. He
encouraged the students to adopt the idea of service as our way of life to render this world a better place to
live.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Purvaiya Hans, NSS PO of the college, elucidated that the purpose of
organizing the NSS Winter Camp is to motivate and prepare the students for community service and nation
building. She also briefed the volunteers about the upcoming schedules of various activities and events to be
organized during the week-long camp. Around 36 plus volunteers of the college participated in the camp. All
of them were divided into four teams comprising nine members each in order to infuse spirit of teamwork
and leadership qualities in them. NSS Volunteers enlivened the inaugural ceremony with their scintillating
cultural performances. Thereafter a cleanliness drive was undertaken in the college campus followed by
refreshment
DAY-TWO
ON-DAY-TWO
An extension lecture on Mental Health Hygiene was delieverd by Dr Himani Bhutyal, Medical Officer and
Master Yoga Trainer, Department Of Ayush,J&K. she deliberated upon the importance of Ayurveda as a
treasure box of knowledge. She further apprised the students to maintain a good mental, moral, religious,
social and physical conduct to be a complete human being.Further, worthy Principal of the college
Dr.G.S.Rakwal elucidated the students about the significance of striking a balance between traditional and
modern values to maintain a good and harmonious life. He further emphasized upon the dire importance of
yoga which works as an elixir for an integrated and balanced growth of human personality and also advised
the students to inculcate it as a daily practice in their lives as it helps to deal with several challenges in life.
The lecture was followed by a Yoga Demonstration session by Yoga instructors namely Mrs Jyoti Bali, Mrs.
Sheetal Khajuria, Mrs Vandana and Miss Riya Jamwal.They taught various Yoga asanas to NSS Volunteers
and faculty members while emphasizing on their benefit and significance.The resource person Dr. Himani
Bhutyal was felicitated by presenting a living Momento by Principal Dr. G.S Rakwal. Living Momentos
were also presented to the Yoga Instructors by him.The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks
delivered by Dr. Mussarat Chowdhary .The Camp was appreciated by one and all, followed by refreshment.
DAY-THREE
ON-DAY-THREE
Different indigenous and recreational games such as Kho-Kho,Carrom,Chess,Lemon race, Rope Skipping
etc were played and enjoyed by the volunteers. The aim of this endeavour was to encourage the volunteers to
remain healthy and fit by including physical activities and sports in their daily lives.This was followed by a
painting Competition and extempore.
The main aim behind this activity was to create awareness among the
volunteers regarding growing issues of social concern such as Digital India, Clean and Green environment,
Beti bachao, Beti padao, etc. The competition was adjudged by Dr. Meesha Bhagat and Mr. Hilal Ahmad.
The volunteers enjoyed sports day a lot followed by sumptuous lunch.
DAY-FOUR
ON-DAY-FOUR
NSS Volunteers visited adopted village Bain Bajalta to make local community aware of social concerns such
as Nasha Mukt Abhiyan , Beti Bachao Beti Padhao etc. Street plays based on social concerns of present
times were presented by all the teams in collaborative way at Govt. Lower Middle School Bain Bajalta,
wherein Students as well as staff of the school applauded the efforts of volunteers as well as NSS Team for
organizing such informative Nukkad natak on the societal concerns of the masses. This was followed by a
mass rally wherein volunteers promoted awareness of health hygiene and education. The volunteers
conducted door to door campaign through posters and interactive session thereby making local community
aware of Drug Abuse, Road safety, female education etc. The refreshment was also provided to the
volunteers.
DAY-FIVE
ON-DAY-FIVE
NSS unit organized one day excursion trip for NSS volunteers to Surinsar-Mansar wildlife sanctuary
accompanied by staff of the college. Surinsar lake is a breeding ground for many endangered species of birds
and aquatic life as well as a holy place for local inhabitants. As per Hindu Mythology, origin of Surinsar
Lake goes back to the time of Mahahabharat. It is said that the brave Pandava warrior Arjun shot an arrow
into the ground at Mansar which emerged faraway at Surinsar. This is how both lake came into existence.
An island situated in the middle of this lake is home to thick mangroves, looming Pine trees, and thousands
of birds. The beauty and natural splender of the lake was enjoyed equally by the volunteers as well as the
staff. Students also enjoyed various games in the adventure zone established by JKTDC and staying true to
their commitment to serve the society, carried out a cleanliness drive in the nearby park. The volunteers
were served Lunch at the end of the day.
DAY-SIX
ON-DAY-SEVEN
As a part of their contribution towards the beautification of the new college campus, NSS Volunteers
collectively worked to recreate a pathway outside the Principal Chamber and classrooms. This arduous work
continued on the next day of the Camp as well. The volunteers worked tirelessly and beautifully carved NSS
logo near college canteen and painted the whole campus thereby highlighting the live saplings. And the day
ended with sumptuous Lunch.

‘Celebrating Lohri is a wonderful way to connect with our roots, embrace our cultural diversity, and
celebrate the spirit of togetherness. It’s not just a festival; it’s a celebration of community, renewal, and
gratitude for the blessings of the harvest’. With this zeal and zest, NSS Unit of GDC Sidhra organized Lohri
celebrations in the college premises on the last day of the winter camp. The campus came alive with energy
and excitement as students and staff gathered to celebrate Lohri, the vibrant festival that marks the end of
winter and the beginning of the harvest season. The event brought together staff and students from various
cultural backgrounds to participate in this joyous occasion. The celebration kicked off with a grand bonfire,
symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and the ushering in of new beginnings.
Students and staff
circled the fire, offering sesame seeds, peanuts, and roasted corns as part of the traditional Lohri rituals.
These festive treats were then distributed amongst the students and faculty. The Lohri celebration served as
an opportunity for students to learn about the significance of the festival, its agricultural roots, and its
cultural importance in various regions of India.The event was a delightful mix of tradition, fun, and learning,
creating an atmosphere of joy and inclusivity on campus, leaving everyone with cherished memories of this
festival.The event was organized with the active support and coordination of Dr. Purvaiya Hans, PO, NSS
Unit and other members of the unit under the able guidance of Dr. G.S. Rakwal, worthy Principal of the
college. All the other staff members were also present for the occasion.
